GERALD COLEMAN BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Gerald ColemanGerald is a native of Seattle, Washington. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Walla Walla College in 1987. In 1988 Gerald enrolled in law school at Howard University. While at Howard, Gerald became a member of the respected Howard Law Journal. Gerald graduated from Howard University with a J. D. degree in 1991. Following this, he received an offer from the law firm of Ice Miller Donadio and Ryan in Indianapolis, Indiana. He practiced there from 1991-1994, specializing in medical malpractice defense. Following this, he accepted a job as Director of Risk Management for Consumer Regulatory Services at the Indiana Department of Health. In this capacity, he, among other things, made legal and policy recommendations on regulatory issues to senior staff. He held this job until 1997, when he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Health Care Regulatory Services at the Indiana Department of Health. In this capacity, he oversaw the regulation of, among other things, all hospitals, home health agencies and nursing homes in the state of Indiana.

In January 2002, Gerald was appointed the Commissioner for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, taking on the responsibility of overseeing the regulation of all of the State’s license branches. While serving in state government, Gerald was presented the State’s highest award —The Sagamore of the Wabash. He was presented the award not once, but twice from two separate Governors. In 2004, he left state government to become General Counsel of Trotter Construction Company. Gerald is currently a founder and partner in the corporate law firm of Coleman Stevenson & Montel, LLP. He practices in the areas of government services, health care regulation, construction law, contracts, medical malpractice defense, administrative law, corporations and employment law.
